The Damn Weather, operated by Hivewerks, LLC ("we," "our," or "the app"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Location Data
When you grant permission, we collect your device's precise location (latitude and longitude) to provide accurate weather forecasts for your area. We request location access only while the app is in use ("When In Use" permission).
1.2 Saved Locations
If you save cities for quick access, the city name, state, country, and coordinates are stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device.
1.3 User Preferences
Your settings (temperature unit, wind speed unit, phrase mode, notification preferences, etc.) are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage. This data never leaves your device.
1.4 Cached Weather Data
Weather forecasts and related data are temporarily cached on your device to improve performance and power widget displays. This cached data is stored locally and never transmitted to external servers.
1.5 What We Do NOT Collect
- Names, email addresses, or contact information
- Account credentials (no accounts or login required)
- Device identifiers (no IDFA, IDFV, or unique device IDs)
- Browsing history or search history
- Contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or clipboard data
- Health, fitness, or biometric data
- Financial or payment information
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Advertising identifiers
2. How We Use Your Information

3. Third-Party Services
3.1 Apple WeatherKit
To retrieve weather data, your location coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent to Apple's WeatherKit service. Apple processes this data according to their own privacy policy. Your location is not linked to your identity when sent to WeatherKit.

3.2 Apple Maps
We use Apple's MapKit framework to convert your coordinates into a readable location name (reverse geocoding) and to power location search. Apple processes this data according to their privacy policy.
3.3 No Other Third Parties
We do not use any third-party analytics services, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, social media SDKs, or data brokers. Your data is never sold, rented, shared with, or disclosed to any third party beyond the Apple services described above.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage Only
All user data (preferences, saved locations, cached weather) is stored exclusively on your device. We do not operate servers that store your personal information. We do not have a backend, database, or cloud service that receives your data.
4.2 Security Measures
- All network communication uses HTTPS with TLS encryption
- Widget data files are protected with iOS file protection (data is encrypted until the device is unlocked for the first time after boot)
- The app uses Apple's standard iOS sandboxing and data protection mechanisms
4.3 Data Retention
- Location data: Your current location is used in real-time and not stored persistently beyond caching the most recent coordinates for widget updates
- Saved locations: Retained until you delete them from the app
- Preferences: Retained until you change them or uninstall the app
- Weather cache: Automatically refreshed every 15 minutes; old data is overwritten
- All data: Permanently deleted when you uninstall the app
5. Widgets and Notifications
5.1 Home Screen Widgets
Widgets display cached weather data that is shared between the main app and the widget through a secure, on-device App Group container. No data is transmitted to external servers for widget functionality.
5.2 Notifications
If you enable notifications, the app schedules local notifications on your device for morning weather forecasts and severe weather alerts. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. No push notification servers or external services are used.
6. Tracking and Advertising
We do not track you. Specifically:
- We do not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because we have nothing to track
- We do not access the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA)
- We do not link your data across apps or websites
- We do not serve advertisements of any kind
- We do not share data with data brokers
- We do not build user profiles
- We do not engage in cross-app or cross-site tracking
7. Your Rights and Choices
7.1 Location Permission
You can revoke location access at any time through your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. The app will continue to function with manually searched locations if you deny or revoke location permission.
7.2 Deleting Your Data
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:
- Saved locations: Long-press any saved city and tap "Delete" to remove it
- All data: Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored data from your device
- Preferences: You can change any setting at any time within the app
7.3 Rights Under GDPR (European Economic Area and UK)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
- Right of Access: You may request confirmation of what data we process. Since all data is stored locally on your device and we have no server-side records, you already have direct access to all your data.
- Right to Rectification: You can correct any saved location or preference directly within the app.
- Right to Erasure: You can delete saved locations individually or uninstall the app to erase all data.
- Right to Restrict Processing: You can revoke location permission to stop location data processing while retaining saved locations.
- Right to Data Portability: As data is stored locally on your device, it is already in your possession.
- Right to Object: You can stop all data processing by revoking location permission or uninstalling the app.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw location consent at any time via iOS Settings.
Legal basis for processing: We process your location data based on your explicit consent (granted through the iOS location permission prompt). You may withdraw this consent at any time.
If you believe your rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
7.4 Rights Under CCPA/CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act provide you with the following rights:
- Right to Know: You may request what personal information we collect. We collect only location data as described in this policy.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information. Uninstalling the app deletes all data.
- Right to Correct: You may correct inaccurate information by editing saved locations within the app.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Precise geolocation is classified as sensitive personal information under the CPRA. We collect it solely for the purpose of providing weather forecasts, and you may limit this use by revoking location permission.
7.5 Rights Under Other Jurisdictions
We respect privacy rights globally. If you are located in Canada (PIPEDA), Brazil (LGPD), South Africa (POPIA), Australia, New Zealand, Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), or any other jurisdiction with applicable privacy laws, you have similar rights to access, correct, and delete your data as described above. Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can exercise these rights directly without contacting us.

8. Children's Privacy
The Damn Weather is rated 16+ due to optional explicit language content. The app defaults to clean mode with no profanity. Explicit mode requires a separate age confirmation before activation.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the applicable age in your jurisdiction) beyond the location data necessary for weather functionality, which is collected with the device owner's consent via the iOS permission system.
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent international laws. We do not:
- Require any personal information beyond location to use the app
- Create user profiles of children
- Share children's data with third parties
- Use children's data for marketing or advertising
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take steps to address your concern.
9. Data We Share With Apple
The only data that leaves your device is your location coordinates, sent to Apple's services:

10. Do Not Sell or Share
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We have never sold or shared personal information, and we have no plans to do so.
11. International Data Transfers
When your location is sent to Apple WeatherKit and Apple MapKit, it may be processed on Apple's servers located in various countries. These transfers are governed by Apple's privacy practices and data protection agreements. We do not independently transfer your data across borders, as we do not operate any servers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes to how we handle your information, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
